Moderate quake hits Indonesia's Aceh
An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.1 rocked Aceh province in northern tip of Sumatra Island on Friday, there is no immediate report of damage or casualties, the meteorology agency said. The quake shoot at 15:18 Jakarta time (0818 GMT) with epicenter at 257 kilometers southwest Banada Aceh, the capital of the province and at 30 kilometers in depth, an official of the agency said.

Powerful quake hits off Indonesia's Sumatra Island
JAKARTA -- A powerful earthquake measuring 6.3 struck off Indonesia's Sumatra Island early Monday, officials said Monday. The quake struck at sea at 9:37 a.m. (0237 GMT) some 34 kilometers (22 miles) below ground, Indonesia's meteorology and geophysics office said in a brief telephone text message. There were no reports of damage or injuries and there was no tsunami alert. The US Geological Survey put the quake at a strength of 6.4. The quake's epicenter was nearly 160 kilometers southwest of the town of Painan in West Sumatra province. Sumatra's western coast has been repeatedly jolted by strong earthquakes since last month. On Feburary 20, a 7.5-magnitude quake rocked Aceh province, at the tip of Sumatra, killing three people and seriously injuring 25 others on the remote island of Simeulue.

Een aardbeving met een kracht van 6,4 heeft donderdag de Indonesische regio Molukken wakker geschud. De schade valt mee en er vielen geen gewonden volgens de eerste berichten van het Meteorologisch en Geofysisch Agentschap in Jakarta.
De ondergrondse aardbeving was voelbaar om 10.22 uur plaatselijke tijd. Haar episch centrum lag 216 kilometer ten noordoosten van de stad Ternate, in het noorden van de Molukken. Aardbevingen en vulkaanuitbarstingen komen regelmatig voor in Indonesië.
